In an attempt to give our Monster something other than food to comfort him a therapist suggested a blanket. Those of you with a lot of small children know that carrying a blanket around is not all that convenient. So I asked if I could make him a miniature lovey/softy/silky (everyone seems to call them something different), and she said that would be a great idea. So I took a few different fabrics, cut little samples and let the Monster play with them. I then picked the two he seemed to like the best. I have a 10x12 Plexiglas square for another project and so I cut one of each of the fabrics with it. I was just going to sew them together, flip them and top stitch but realized that the Monster is going to be carrying this thing everywhere and he's more likely to love it if it's aesthetically appealing to him. So we needed some bright colors!! I have a ton of ribbon, so we added some different ones. All together there are about 10 different textures throughout, which is also good for the Monster to touch and feel. I hand embroidered "Little Monster" on the front. Some might wonder why not put his name, but you never know if an adoptive family will change the name so I stuck with our favorite nickname for him. So now the hard part - encouraging him to love it!
